Good Miami Project Overview
I started the Good Miami Project almost as self help for the pain the global and US political system was causing me to feel in October 2020. It has since become much more than I ever anticipated. The project is fairly simple in its mission to provide free photo shoots to people and organizations doing good in the Miami area. The images are for the people/organizations to use as they need them for everything from fundraising, to recruiting volunteers, or getting our their message.
Miami is known by many for either it's glitzy scenes of wealth, beautiful people and homes, parties, and/or an ugly side of crime and corruption. But this is not the Miami I know having moved here almost 20 years ago. Miami (like anywhere) has a lot of people who help other people and who bring positivity to even the heaviest of situations. I was not expecting how emotional interacting with these people would make me.
So far the project has introduced me to Central American refugees, a project in the Miami Dade public schools to help the 9000 homeless high school students in Miami-Dade county get clothes, backpacks and food, to a group mentoring young black men, to teaching young disabled men how to build a wooden boats, a small organic farm in the heart of Miami, a small group that supports domestic violence survivors by teaching them skills (they were learning MS Word the day I visited), a program for vets that gets them out fishing every Wednesday, a woman who helps women are or were incarcerated and families, and more.
Please check back as there are many photoshoots planned.
